the Dirty double- crossing

TOUR

the dirty double-crossing tour

One Great Lake,

two great states!

Sometimes our guests have great ideas. We always ask about their favorite tours, and a guest suggested this tour idea based on a past League of Michigan Bicyclists Tour, the long-lost Cross Lake Adventure. We’ve borrowed and dusted off their old plan and added our special sauce to come up with the Dirty Double-Crossing Tour! It’s very simple- ride the Lake Express ferry from Muskegon to Milwaukee, bicycle north to Manitowoc, enjoy the historic Badger ferry ride back to Ludington, and have a wonderful ride down the coast back to Muskegon.

This tour is designed for your comfort and fun

If you’re coming from east of Gary Indiana, we recommend you join this tour in Muskegon Michigan on Saturday, June 21. Arrive by 1 p.m. and enjoy a big loop ride from North Muskegon to the west and up the shoreline of Lake Michigan, back east to Whitehall, then return on the paved bike trail! Sunday morning we catch the 10 a.m. Lake Express ferry to Milwaukee, landing about noon CDT. We have our famous sag lunch available in one of Milwaukee’s outdoor beer gardens, then off to finish our 40-mile ride north to Port Washington for the night, including dinner on the sandy shores of Lake Michigan!

Monday we ride another 40+ miles to Manitowoc for our last night in Wisconsin, at a hotel on the harbor. Tuesday morning is available for a ride, so long as you return for the 1 p.m. loading onto the historic and famous Badger ferry to Ludington.

We have Tuesday & Wednesday nights in Ludington, along with layover day activities including a ride out on US Bike Routes 20 & 35, plus a special alumni reception with charcouterie and wine at a local art house.

Thursday we turn south for 50 miles to Whitehall and the Weathervane Inn. You’ll ride the entire paved Hart-Montague Trail, plus about 25 miles on quiet paved roads. On our last day we return to Muskegon and end the tour about noon at the ferry dock.

Please consider starting and ending your tour in Milwaukee. You will arrive here after 11 a.m. on SUNDAY JUNE 22 and wait for the Michigan crew to come in on the noon ferry. Your tour is identical from the ferry dock here all the way to Friday noon in Muskegon. Once back in Muskegon, we’ll deliver your luggage to the ferry dock and leave you with tickets on the afternoon ferry. We do not have a Wisconsin-based staff and can’t include lodging either pre- or post-tour. This is reflected in the lower tour cost for those who select the Milwaukee start/end point.

Parking is available for all guests at $5 per day (2024 rates) at the ferry docks in both Muskegon and Milwaukee and is not included in the tour price. The minimum inn-to-inn mileage includes about 100 miles in Wisconsin plus 70 in Michigan, plus up to 40 additional miles optional on Saturday July 6, and any riding on our layover day in Ludington. This tour is also expected to finish at over 125 miles on traffic-free paved bike trail! It’s a great combination of safety, comfort and opportunity!
