Late summer provides great opportunities in the Upper Peninsula, and we’d like to take advantage of it and show you bicycling and adventure in and around Marquette! Home to Northern Michigan University and also the largest city in the U.P., Marquette has a lot to offer.

We’re designing four days of adventure plus a layover day for you to take advantage of some of the local outfitters. A gravel bike might be best for this tour as there will be a combination of paved roads, gravel roads, and both paved and crushed limestone trails. In addition, local outfitters can rent mountain bikes for a full range of cycling experiences.

This tour is designed for your comfort and fun

Our plan is for one host hotel for Sunday through Wednesday nights, and then a special night out at a historic hotel in Big Bay, so there’s very limited daily packing up and moving around.

Monday and Tuesday are devoted to riding the entire lenght of the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, starting with a self-shuttled ride to Ishpeming for the loop ride out to Republic, and back on county roads. Tuesday we ride car-free from our hotel to Ishpeming and back, this day all paved bike trail! 

Wednesday is a layover day where you’ll have opportunities to do ‘other things’, including kayaking on Lake Superior, paddling the giant voyageur canoe, or maybe renting a mountain bike for a guided day on local trails.

Thursday we ride gravel roads out to Big Bay and enjoy an overnight at historic Thunder Bay Inn, our home for the night and also host for our final group dinner!

All good things must end, and we complete this tour with a road ride from Big Bay back to Marquette, ending about noon Friday.
